In order to provide youth students who are financially disadvantaged or living in offshore areas the opportunity to
take an in-depth look at Taiwan, Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education will subsidize the progra m
expenses for “Trekking Taiwan – Creative Tour” and all or part of the travel expenses for 30 youth students in 2013.
Youth Development Administration, formerly known as National Youth Commission, has been collaborating with
colleges and universities as well as NPOs and conducting a series of activities for “Trekking Taiwan – Creative Tour”
since 2005. This progra m allows youth from 15 to 30 years old to explore Taiwan through in-depth tours with
different perspectives and in turn learn to care and c herish Taiwan. Comparing to other youths, costs for participating
“Trekking Taiwan – Creative Tour” are relatively high and opportunities are limited for youth students who are financially
d isadvantaged or from o ffshore areas. Therefore, Youth Development A dministration is provid ing this subsidy and
continuing to conduct this progra m.
Chen, who was subsidized to participate “Bike through Eastern Taiwan” last year said, “To be able to c hallenge
the bike tour around eastern Taiwan and document his youth with memorable moments was not on ly fun, but also made
him more determined through the perseverance.” Ruan participated in “The Light of Happiness (exploratory ca mp in
Hsinguang and Zhenxibao Tribe)” and said, “Witnessing the harvest of peac hes and how the Tay al protects their land
and the environment was an eye-opening and fruitful experience for the youths who are used to urban lives.”
It is the mission of “Trekking Taiwan – Creative Tour” to let youths acknowledge and take responsibility for
our land through traveling, learning and experiencing. Youths who h ave fewer opportunities to travel may grow by
participating in “Trekking Taiwan – Creative Tour” with the subsidies.
